BILL'S PAINTINGS
I retired and took over a decade off from painting to sail, travel, write, and think of what to do next. These recent works take off from where I left off, nothing changed, I just regained the desire to paint and I found my new medium, “interference acrylic.” This relatively new medium allows me to get the same effects as my encaustic did without all the fuss, that is, it refracts light rather than reflects like oil and acrylics. I still use my dry pigments; I just substitute the new medium for wax. Interference paint contains small particles of mica, helping the color to switch between its compliments. Most of my work still uses the Golden Sector as my format, like I said; I took up where I left off. For you that are not familiar with The Golden Sector, Divine Ratio, or Phi, as it is also called, please Google for a detailed explanation.
My paintings are abstract or non-objective with a few images thrown in as my catalyst. Many of the images and titles are tongue in cheek, sometimes personal, sometimes a bit mystic, and perhaps even idiotic. Many of my paintings have absolutely no content other than my search for what is “beautiful.” Many artists find the word decorative insulting, I don’t mind at all. Don’t view my work for a story, no commentary intended, no reality, and no reproduction of nature. View my work as you would look at a jewel, a diamond for example. Look for the sparkle, the flash of color, the color change as you move by the work, the intensity of light. These paintings are extremely attractive in any room, especially if there is natural light. The viewer will be rewarded with changing colors as they view from different angles.
These 17 paintings are but examples of my work. I have many more paintings in my studio and I am open to other ideas as long as they adhere to my Golden Sector format, my painting media, and style. For example, I would love to design and paint a piece with one of your feathers, ribbon, or another precious article. I have often worked on collaboratory pieces with much pleasure and success.
